Up and Coming Pop Punk Bands | Layby

This week for our up and coming UK pop punk bands we bring to you Nottingham pop punks Layby. Forming in 2013, Layby recently released their first EP 'Bombsite'. If you're a fan of fast paced pop punk like Handguns, Forever Came Calling or Neck Deep definitely check them out. The band are also playing Nottingham Pop Punk Fest on the 3rd of January (find out more here). We asked the band some questions to find out a bit more about them...

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BAND NAME?
Aaron (lead vocals) is a trucker and came up with the name after years of writing songs on those lonely nights in a Layby.

DESCRIBE LAYBY'S SOUND IN FIVE WORDS FOR SOMEONE WHO'S NEVER HEARD YOU BEFORE...
Heavy, Fast, Passionate, Pop Punk.

FAVOURITE TRACK FROM 'BOMBSITE' AND WHY?
'More Than This' was the first song we wrote together and was the first song we released, so its the most special to us. We get a lot of positive feedback for that song too.

YOU'RE RECORDING YOUR SECOND EP, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU CAN TELL US ABOUT IT?
Over the last year, our first full year together as a band we've grown a lot closer as friends and as band mates. Writing together is getting easier and easier. We can really bounce off each other and enjoy producing music. Since 'Bombsite,' we've come a long way and we are really pleased with our progress.

The EP is going to be awesome to play live! When we play live we want it to be a more then just another gig. We're fans of getting the crowd involved, singalong, starting circle pits etc.

We've worked really hard with our producer, James Hill at Steel City Studio in Sheffield to get this EP sounding massive. There are some sick breakdowns and gang vocals throughout the EP. The lead vocals have a punk rock edge with a lot of aggression and passion. There's honesty and sincerity in every bar.

Aaron writes a majority of the lyrics and on this EP, he's been quite self-reflective. He wrote a ton of lyrics when the rest of the band were working on the music, and this led him to letting out a whole load of pent up feelings such as self-doubt and guilt. As a whole the EP has really helped everyone in the band get over something that was troubling them.

YOU'RE PLAYING NOTTINGHAM POP PUNK FEST IN JANUARY, WHAT IS ONE REASON WHY EVERYONE SHOULD GET DOWN TO THE MAZE AND CHECK IT OUT?
Aaron from the band is throwing it to build an Unsigned Pop Punk Scene in Nottingham. So you should come down and support your local scene.

IF YOU COULD PLAY A SHOW WITH ANYONE IN THE WORLD WHO WOULD IT BE?
Wow, big question. I think it would be impossible for us all to agree on one. Let's say it would be a toss up between New Found Glory, Neck Deep and blink-182.

WHO INFLUENCES YOU THE MOST AS A BAND?
There's a massive age gap in this band, like 10 years, so as you can imagine the influence of the style of Pop Punk that we're most passionate about is extremely mixed. We're a pretty awesome balance of a kind of New Found Glory and State Champs sound!

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP FIVE FAVOURITE POP PUNK ALBUMS?
We've picked one each:
Aaron: blink-182 - Dude Ranch
Neal: blink-182 - Enema of the State
Tim: State Champs - The Finer Things
Joe: The Wonder Years - The Upsides
Ash: The Story So Far - What You Don't See
