Up & Coming Pop Punk Bands | Planet Zero

Today for our up and coming pop punk bands post we have German band, Planet Zero. The guys have just released their new EP, Origin, which is full of cheerful, buoyant and summery songs, perfect for fans of All Time Low, Forever the Sickest Kids or Mayday Parade. We asked the guys a few questions and let them tell us about their new EP...

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Benny: We are a German band based in Stuttgart and Mannheim, really in the south of the country.

HOW DID YOU FORM?

Benny: Ferdi and I were playing in a band called Logomat for nearly nine years. We ended this project last year. But there was always this idea of a pop punk band with a pretty easy life. So i came up with this plan about Planet Zero in my head. Which is a planet where the life is easy and we can do whatever we want. I even created a beer we called Zero Brew. So the idea became more and more alive and I wrote some songs that I think fit in this world pretty much. During this time I told Danny and Marius about this idea and they joined in immediately.
Danny: During college Benny, Marius and me became good friends. Some day Benny just came up with this band idea and convinced us right from that point. After some days he introduced us to Ferdi who is the best guys ever. We call him the beast cause he is packing our hole backline with just one hand!

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BAND NAME?

Benny: It was basicly an idea I came up with during studying. It was all about this thing to do and not care about the stuff that sucks every day. I was thinking about a place where you can just enjoy your life and don’t care about all the conventions. So the name Planet Zero was born.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW EP 'ORIGIN'

Benny: We went to the studio this winter in January and February. We had a bunch of songs we recorded. All of them are basically about stuff that happens on our planet. Like our own beer I talked about before, girls, parties, drinking and so much more. We hope the people out there will like it. We put a lot of emotion in it. Maybe one thing which was pretty hard is that we had just one week in the studio.

Danny: Our debut EP "Origin" was the first identification stage for us as the new band. We tried to find our sound, our own style and to bring in the influences of each and everyone of us in it. It has 5 tracks with a range from summer feelings to hard guitar riffs. The recording and mixing were made by ourselves. Benny is a music producer, so we have a real expert on board.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG FROM ORIGIN AND WHY?
Benny: Pretty much "Home" because this one gets stucks in my head all the time and I love to play the song live on stage. We just came up with our lyric video for this song.
Ferdi: Hot shots cause I’m more into harder music like A Day to Remember or BMTH and I think that song is just awesome.
Marius: As drummer I prefer Zero Brew cause it’s a fun punk summer song and as a drummer it makes it a lot of fun to play the song live.
Danny: In my earlier days I was more into acoustic music. I still love this kind of music so Lipstick & Champange is my favorite one from this record

WHO IS THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE FOR YOU AND WHY?
Benny: Other bands like All Time Low, You Me At Six, Fall Out Boy and so many others. We all party when we hear their songs coming up on the radio (that is pretty rare in Germany) or the CD player. And there are so many other great bands we would love to play with one day.
Danny: Big influences for us are bands like: All Time Low, You Me At Six or A Day To Remember. With their songwriting and the precision in their mixes, they all are paragons for us. We all own all of their albums and have seen every live DVD.

IF YOU COULD PLAY A SHOW WITH ANYONE WHO WOULD IT BE?
Benny: All Time Low!!!
Danny: I agree, that All time low, with all of their fun on stage, would be the best band to play with. It is a big dream for all of us, maybe we will be lucky one day and get the chance.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP FIVE FAVOURITE POP PUNK ALBUMS?
Band: Wow this is so difficult to say there are so many great bands with awesome records. Maybe this are the top 5 we listen most to at the moment
All Time Low - Nothing Personal
You Me at Six - Sinners Never Sleep
Mayday Parade - Monsters in the Closet
Simple Plan - Still not getting any Fall Out Boy - American Beauty/American Psycho
