Up and Coming Pop Punk Bands | Ember
Today for our up and coming UK pop punk bands we bring you Ember who sound like a mix of We are the In Crowd, Neck Deep and Tonight Alive. Yeah, you know you want some of that. Ember recently released their new EP Sons of Jealousy which conveys the themes of negative relationships and bad friendships. It's a mix of in your face guitar, fierce drums and female vocals, something which is refreshing in the UK pop punk scene. If you're a fan of any of the bands mentioned above, then Sons of Jealousy is undeniably something you should listen to. Ember kindly answered some questions for us about the songs from their new EP, their favourite albums and how they came up with their name. Read their answers below:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Teesside, UK.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BAND NAME?
Josh (drummer) was brainstorming ideas and words that he liked the sound of, and Ember is one that stuck.
HOW DID THE BAND FORM?
Beth and Josh knew each other from school and had played together in a band previously. Josh then moved onto a metalcore band but when they decided to call it a day, Beth and Josh both decided to start a new band together.
Beth knew Tom from an old band and decided to ask him if he was interested in starting a new project. After playing with a few different guitarists, Tom met Jason over Joinmyband.com (who also happened to work at the same place as Beth - small world) and soon after Jason joined Ember.
We met Ben through Josh’s parents. He worked as a lifeguard at the school Josh’s dad works in.
DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN 5 WORDS...
Catchy, fun, juicy, pop punk
THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A FEMALE FRONTED BAND IS...
It is something different from the majority of other bands in the UK pop punk scene. We think this makes us quite unique in that respect. Apart from that having, a female singer isn’t much different than having a guy singer, maybe more of a diva.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW EP SONS OF JEALOUSY...
Sons of Jealousy – It’s about a guy who keeps on messing around this girl. The girl then moves on but he’s gutted; like ‘only want what you can’t have’ syndrome. This is the first song that we wrote together. Beth and Josh had worked on this song in their old band, but liked it so much they wanted use it. Jason and Tom rewrote the lead guitar line and it just brought the whole song together.
But I Never Thought That You Were The Problem –This song is about two-faced, back stabbing, bitchy friends. People who are just unhealthy to be around, but you don’t realise it until you’re on the outside looking in. When we were recording this song, Josh played the drum fill at the beginning the best he ever had but the producer lost it! So we have the second best drum fill on the track.
My Nonsense Makes Sense – We love the intro effects to this song. The lyrics are about mild flirtations between friends and essentially trying to break the friend zone but all the time worrying if you’re doing the right thing and not wanting to spoil anything.
