ROAM Interview

ROAM have had one busy year touring with the likes of Neck Deep, State Champs and A Loss For Words concluding with their own headline run in the middle of summer with As It Is and Light You Up. Therefore, it came as no surprise to learn that they had been added as support to Me Vs Hero's UK tour this September. We caught up with vocalist and guitarist Alex Adam before their show at the Red Rooms to ask about touring, their new EP and the disappearance of Set Your Goals...

PPUK: HOW'S THE TOUR BEEN GOING?
Alex: Yeah, really good actually. I guess we're on our fifth day now and yeah it's been really good actually. Manchester and Leeds were probably highlights for us so far. In terms of crowd reaction it's been really good.

PPUK: DID ONE OF YOU GET YOUR STUFF STOLEN STUFF STOLEN IN BRISTOL?
Alex: Well to an extent. We went to a petrol station and the box where all of our money's kept for fuel and stuff was in the back, and Sam's bag was on top of it and he picked it up and went to put it on the floor but there was a puddle outside so he put it on the little step where the petrol pumps are, and then he got the money out and paid for it and then when he went back he closed the door but because it wasn't behind the van he didn't see it. We drove off, we realised at about half four in the morning that it was missing. We went back and it was gone. The next day we went back to the petrol station and some scatty woman showed us the CCTV and she showed us this guy who had turned up like an hour after us and just picked up this bag and put it in his van and drove off with it. So yeah, we're not going to get it back. We got the registration number and everything but they police were like 'there's nothing we can do' because I guess technically he didn't actually steal it, he just found it and put it in his van. People have been giving Sam clothes though. So Sam's got like three or four T-shirts now and a pair of jeans out of it.

PPUK: YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN TOURING A LOT THIS YEAR. YOU WENT TO EUROPE WITH STATE CHAMPS AND A LOSS FOR WORDS HOW WAS THAT?
Alex: It was really good. It was our first time in Europe so to get a reaction, to have people come to shows over there for us, was really good. Like the first show we played over there was in Eindhoven with Real Friends and The Wonder Years and State Champs and we were the first band on. The promoter put us on within the last few days before the festival and the room was full and everyone was singing along and it was just really great for the first time over there. And the promoters are really different over there, they'll spend the whole day with you and take you around the whole town and cook you breakfast, lunch and dinner and let you stay in their house and then cook you breakfast again the next day. So, it's really different over there but yeah it's really good.

PPUK: IF YOU COULD PLAY ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD WHERE WOULD IT BE?
Alex: As in one venue or a country?
PPUK: Either.
Alex: I don't know. See, because like a massive show like Wembley would be sick in terms of if it was full for another band and we were supporting, that would be cool but I think I'd really like to go to America and Australia I think that would be cool, if we can get across to do that at some point.

PPUK: OVER THE SUMMER YOU HAD YOUR HEADLINE TOUR WITH AS IT IS AND LIGHT YOU UP HOW DID THAT GO?
Alex: It was really good. It was weird because our manager had been saying to us 'okay you need to do a headline tour now, this is getting booked in' and we were kind of a bit apprehensive and we weren't sure that anyone was actually gonna come, because up until then we'd only done support tours. We thought that maybe they [As It Is & Light You Up] would bring in the crowd and a few people knew us kind of thing, but we sold out like two venues and we came close to selling out most of them. I mean As It Is and Light You Up did help a lot. There was a lot of pull from them as well but it was crazy. It was just insane to do ten days in the UK and not have a bad show. It was really kind of humbling I guess because  we didn't really expect that many to come out ans support us.

PPUK: YOU GUYS HAD A BODY BOARD AT THE SHOWS ON YOUR LAST RUN OF THE UK, IS THAT MAKING AN APPEARANCE THIS TIME?
Alex: Well no because the first one was Alex's that he had from when he was a kid and actually the day before we played here we played the same venue on that tour and it got broke in half, that was on the London show. So then we put out a tweet saying 'oh it's broken, if anyone has one bring it' kind of thing and a girl brought hers here and that got broken as well so we don't have any, and we kind of thought save it for a headline run. Save all the props and things for another headline run and kind of just plan it and maybe bring a few next time. But no there's not any tonight unfortunately.

PPUK: WHAT'S THE WEIRDEST THING A FAN HAS EVER ASKED YOU TO DO?
Alex: A kid asked me to sign his back. I had to do like a video message for someone's friend which was quite weird. Someone asked when we were here last time to draw dicks on their CD. Like they bought our CD and asked us to draw dicks on them which we did quite happily. We signed the body board that the girl brought. Some people ask us to draw pictures and stuff. There's not really anything really weird
PPUK: That means you've only got it to come..
Alex: Yeah well, hopefully. It's interesting when people are weird and not just like 'can you sign this'.

PPUK: HAVE YOU GOT ANY WEIRD/FUNNY/ EMBARRASSING TOUR STORIES THAT YOU'RE WILLING TO SHARE WITH US?
Alex: I've got so many, it's just what's appropriate. See, because I could tell you loads but they're not going to be about me and whoever I tell you about is gonna get pissed off. Okay, I'll do one and hope no one gets offended by it. We did a tour with Neck Deep in January and when we played, actually I'm not going to mention what date we played, one of the dates we stayed at a guys house who our manager knew. Our manager has a habit of putting us with people who he doesn't actually know but he says he knows them and they've just kind of gone 'Yeah, I'll put them up' and it tends to be quite interesting people. We turned up at this guy's house at like two in the morning and he was just like the nicest guy in the world he had the best intentions but he was so weird and he was like 'yeah you can sleep in my bed if you want' and we were like 'it's okay thanks' and he was like 'yeah there's enough beds for everyone but someone should stay in my bed' and we were like 'no, that's fine there's enough beds for everyone, we won't stay in your bed'. Then we went into our rooms and there was a box of chocolates on everyone's pillow and he was like 'yeah I've got you all chocolates but you can stay in my bed if you want' and we were like 'no that's cool, we don't want to stay in your bed'. We went to bed and the next day we woke up and he was like 'yeah I've got enough bacon for everyone' and in his fridge he literally had like ten packs of bacon. I don't know, he was the nicest guy but it was just a very funny night and very weird but that's probably the most appropriate story I can tell you.

PPUK: SPEAKING OF NECK DEEP, ME VS HERO TOOK THEM ON A TOUR BEFORE THEY BLEW UP, DO YOU THINK HISTORY COULD REPEAT ITSELF FOR YOU GUYS?
Alex: I think that Neck Deep were always going to blow up regardless of who they went on tour with. I think Me vs Hero have always been, at the time they had been, the biggest pop punk band in the UK and this tour has shown that they've got a lot of fans still there and the new album's going to do a lot of things for them. Yeah, hopefully we'll get to that level that Neck Deep are at eventually, but it's going to take a while because they have blown up.

PPUK: YOU GUYS HAVE RECENTLY BEEN POSTING PICTURES OF YOU ALL IN THE STUDIO, CAN YOU TELL US ANYTHING ABOUT THAT?
Alex: Yeah, we went into Steel City Studios which is just in Sheffield and we went there today just to finish off a few bits. We went in with Drew Lawson who does sound for While She Sleeps, Bring Me The Horizon. He's done The Blackout. So he's done some big bands, he's really talented and I think we went there for a week and we recorded all the instruments there and then me and Alex went to Wrexham to go with Seth Barlow, who's Ben from Neck Deep's brother, and he recorded all the vocals and then we've sent that back to Drew and now he's mixing it and hopefully it's going to be a four track EP which should be out  late this year or early next year. Hopefully there should be a single out soon and we're shooting a video for it next Saturday and we'll play a new song tonight as well.

PPUK: EVEN THOUGH THE MAN OVERBOARD TOUR GOT CANCELLED ARE YOU STILL EXCITED?
Alex: I think it would have been a great end to the year but it couldn't be helped and I hope Nik gets better soon and everything. It would have made a very nice end to the year for us in terms of our first year of touring. But yeah it's been rescheduled to April and May so Italy's gonna be really hot that time of year so we're all fine with it to be honest. As long as we can get something to fill that time, so we're trying to find some tours and stuff at the moment.

PPUK: EVEN THOUGH YOU'VE PLAYED WITH SOME QUITE BIG BANDS LIKE STATE CHAMPS, A LOSS FOR WORDS AND NECK DEEP IS IT QUITE COOL TO KNOW THAT YOU'RE GOING TO BE TOURING WITH MAN OVERBOARD?
Alex: Yeah definitely, I mean like even Me Vs Hero, when I was growing up and first kind of getting into this genre, they were such massive bands that influenced me and influenced all of us. So it's just kind of crazy to be able to tour with them. Especially Man Overboard because they're just a band who, when we started this band, were very unattainable and unreachable to us. They were like these massive celebrities and we'd never get to that stage so to be able to support them on a  European tour is just crazy, really grateful to be able to do that.

PPUK: I KNOW YOU'RE A SET YOUR GOALS FAN, WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THEM WHEN DO YOU THINK THEY'LL COME BACK?
Alex: I don't know, I'd love it if they came back but I don't know if they will. I follow Matt, one of the singers, the small one on instagram and he's touring with Snoop Dog. I don't know what he's doing but he's doing something, tour managing or something with Snoop Dog. I don't know, I think they'll maybe release a few more songs because they did have a load of demos and a few new songs apparently but I don't know. I would love them to come back. If they did come back we're going to shoot our manager if he doesn't get us on that tour.

PPUK: IS THAT YOUR GOAL? TO PLAY WITH SET YOUR GOALS?
Alex: Yeah that's one of them, it's up there. Sum 41 after that. If we ever get to play with Sum 41 I will die happy. It's very far away but maybe one day.

Seasons Change Release New Song

About a week ago, Seasons Change released a brand new song from their upcoming debut full length. Listen to Hope This Stains below:

Me Vs Hero Interview

During the month of September, Me vs Hero embarked on their first UK tour since the release of their new album I'm Completely Fine. We caught up with Sam, Bobby and Mike in Nottingham to ask about the tour, the new album and if their new song Heisenberg has anything to do with Breaking Bad...

PPUK: YOU'RE FIVE DAYS INTO YOUR TOUR HOW'S IT BEEN GOING, A 10 OUT OF 10?
Bobby: Good, I'm not going to lie and say 10 out of 10 but like, I don't know, people are there [at the shows].
Sam: 11 at least. No, it's probably been as we expected it would be, maybe a little bit better than what we actually expected really to be fair.
Bobby: It's been good. Newcastle was sick, Manchester was amazing, Leeds was amazing, it's been good.

PPUK: DID NOTTINGHAM LET YOU DOWN?
Bobby: No, but people didn't seem to like stage dive or get that into it. I was saying to Mike the other day though, if I go to a show or if I used to go to a show or whatever, I wasn't the type of person that would get to the front and get involved anyway, I'd rather just stand at the back and sing and enjoy it. Which is fine, people enjoy shows in different ways.
Sam: People wanted another song so I guess they were enjoying it.
Bobby: Nodding, saw loads of nodding so it was fine.

PPUK: HOW'S THE REACTION TO I'M COMPLETELY FINE BEEN?
Bobby: Awesome I think. I've not seen anyone say it's shit.
Sam: No. I think the only problem is that we need to get it out to more people. If we had the backing to get it out to more people it would be great because every single person who's posted about [I'm Completely Fine], that we've seen, and we do look [at social media]...
Bobby: We check twitter, social networking all the time...
Sam: We do like to keep up to date with everything and speak to our fans and everyone's who posted about it's been absolutely fantastic. There's been nothing even semi-bad, it's just been all positive and really amazing. We didn't get that with our first album, so yeah it's been great and absolutely fantastic so far.

PPUK: DO YOU FEEL LIKE THE POSITIVE REACTIONS ARE EVEN BETTER DUE TO THE FACT THAT I'M COMPLETELY FINE NEARLY DIDN'T HAPPEN?
Bobby: Yeah, to get it out is, you know, great anyway.I've seen people on Twitter say it's a masterpiece and stuff and that's just like amazing. We spent a lot of time writing and recording that album.

PPUK: SO, YOU GUYS DID ALL THE RECORDING YOURSELVES?
Bobby: We ended up doing all the recording ourselves.
Sam: Essentially yeah. We actually recorded everything ourselves.
Bobby: We hired a studio for the drums but we still did it ourselves and like we were still there ourselves.
Sam: We actually set up the microphones and recorded it. We did vocals in a high-rise council estate flat. It was horrible.
Bobby: Sam and Grant did their guitars at a farm in Cumbria.
Sam: It was very, very stressful. there were chickens...
Bobby: He's got 25,000 chickens Grant, our guitarist. They didn't like those guitars.
Mike: We didn't mix it though right?
Bobby: No, no we sent it off to Romesh.
Sam: He does Kids In Glass Houses, he's done a bit of Motorhead, he's done Funeral For a Friend, Save Your Breath, The Blackout..
Bobby: He did an awesome job of mixing it.
Sam: He did our first album in entirety, recorded mixed and mastered our first album so we went back to him after we were getting robbed by other people.
Bobby: He saved us.
Sam: Yeah, he saved us.
Bobby: I remember when we were in Japan, we got sent one demo mix of a song and we were like 'thank God'.
Sam: We were on tour with The Wonder Years in Japan and our label, the guy who signed us in Japan he was on the tour bus with us at the time as well and we showed him and he was like 'yeah it's great'.
Bobby: We passed it around The Wonder Years and stuff it was cool.

PPUK: WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SONG FROM I'M COMPLETELY FINE AND WHY?
Bobby: I think its Opposites actually.
Sam: I like them all really, I'm proud of writing them all but I think Hang In, which is an acoustic song, and a bit different to what we usually do. It's about me being homeless for 3 months.
Bobby: IRL.
Sam: What does that mean?
Bobby: In real life.
Sam: In real life yeah, it actually did.

PPUK: SO, THE SONG HEISENBERG? ARE YOU GUYS BREAKING BAD FANS?
Bobby: Very much so, all of us are.
Mike: Bob's got a tattoo.
Bobby: I have got a tattoo.
PPUK: Can we see it?
Bobby: Yeah it's not anywhere weird *gets out Walter tattoo on leg*
PPUK: Did it hurt?
Bobby: No, it was alright.
Sam: Tattoos always hurt, he's such a liar.
PPUK: What does it say?
Bobby: Kiss the Cook. No it wasn't that bad, like that Caspar one *shows tattoo of Caspar the ghost on leg* absolutely killed, I had to make her stop halfway through.
Mike: As you can see because it's half done.
Sam: He's also got bees on his knees.
Bobby: I have got bees in my knees.

PPUK: DO YOU GUYS WATCH GAME OF THRONES?
Mike: Yeah.
Bobby: I love Game of Thrones.

PPUK: IF YOU COULD CHOOSE GAME OF THRONES OR BREAKING BAD, WHAT WOULD YOU PICK?
Bobby: That is such a hard choice.
Sam: That is a very hard question. Maybe Game of Thrones because it's not finished yet and I've seen all of Breaking Bad.
Bobby: Am I allowed to put another series into the mix anyway?
Sam: Don't do Boardwalk Empire.
Bobby: Boardwalk Empire, it's my favourite.
Sam: Oh don't do Boardwalk Empire, nope.
Bobby: Boardwalk Empire's my favourite over all of them.
Sam: Well yeah, I mean I love them all equally.
Bobby: It was those three to pick from it would definitely be Boardwalk Empire.
Mike: I can't even choose.

PPUK: IF YOU WERE CHARACTERS FROM GAME OF THRONES WHO WOULD YOU BE?
Sam: Tyrion.
Bobby: Yeah Tyrion, the best guy ever. The god of tits and wine.
Sam: *laughs*
Bobby: That's what he says he is. What's his dad called?
PPUK: Tywin.
Mike: I think I'd be Deanerys Targaryen.
Sam: So you could look at yourself in the mirror all the time?
Bobby: Tywin's cool but he's harsh.

PPUK: I'VE GOT TO ASK ABOUT YOUR APP, HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THAT IDEA?
Bobby: It was all Grant, I thought it was a terrible idea and it turned out to be fantastic. Everyone really liked it and it was actually a great idea. But when he was talking about it I was like 'what the hell are you talking about?'
Sam: I loved it from when he mentioned it. It was gonna be a great idea.
Mike: We should have made it a virus and you have to pay to get it off.
Sam: To my knowledge, we are the first band that has ever done that.

PPUK: DO YOU PLAY IT YOURSELVES?
Sam: I've played it a couple of times yeah, it's not the best game.
Bobby: It's a pretty crap game. Sometimes you can't actually do the things it wants you to do and our drummer's girlfriend gave it a one out of five on the itunes store.
Mike: You can't lose though so it doesn't matter.
Sam: It's just a good way to premiere the album and its not been done by anyone else
Bobby: When it all came out and stuff I thought it was amazing. Download it, app store or android store.
Sam: and it's free.

PPUK: FOR ANYONE WHO'S NOT LISTENED TO I'M COMPLETELY FINE YET, WHY SHOULD THEY?
Mike: We'll find you and kill you if you don't listen to it.
Bobby: Its had lots and lots of effort put into it by five not so young gentlemen. Loads of effort and money has been thrown at it and the lyrics mean a lot to Sam here.
Sam: I mean I'd say it's a very relatable album. I think a lot of the stuff on the album is relatable.
Mike: It's because you wrote it.
Bobby: Of course it's relatable to you.
All: *laughs*
Sam: I can really relate to it.
Mike: Really speaks to me, it really gets me.
Sam: I really get it, I understand it completely.
Bobby: We said it loads aswell when it first came out, it's an honest album as well. It's pretty down to Earth. I can understand it aswell.
Sam: All lyrics are genuine about stuff that people go through, like work, fucking money and shit, all that stuff.
Bobby: Everyday struggles.
Sam: As you get older it's really shit. You just wait 'till you're my age, 21.
All: *laughs*

I'm Completely Fine is out now.

Real Friends Explain the Concept Behind Album Artwork

Last night, Real Friends took to Facebook and explained the concept behind Maybe This Place Is The Same and We're Just Changing's artwork. It turns out that it actually has a really relevant meaning in relation to the album. Read the what they had to say below:

'Ever since we started this band I always wanted our fans to understand every aspect of it. We want you to understand our lyrics, our music, our motivations, and even our album art work. There are so many records that I hold close to my heart and I have no idea what the songs are about. Most of those records I have no idea what the significance of the album art is either.

I am writing this because I want to tell you the meaning behind the art work from 'Maybe This Place Is The Same And We're Just Changing.' As a listener of this band you deserve to know.

The album art on all of our releases have always been pictures. We do this because we feel like it defines us. We are just five normal dudes that play music. We have never wanted to give off a flashy look or anything. So we felt it was fitting to keep the picture theme going for the art work of our newest album. All of the past releases have had washed out looking pictures. For this one we wanted to go with a cleaner look. We also shot the picture with film to give it a more natural look.

The chest that all the objects are on is a sign of the past. It signifies still having old memories. I guess kind of like still holding onto them instead of letting them go. The picture frame and car keys carry over imagery that's used in the lyrics of the album. There are multiple times the album talks about driving and pictures. The small army men on the chest are a sign of fighting. More so fighting inside your head with your past, change, and growing older. They are also a sign of youth.

The most important part of the album work is the old rusted out bird bath. The most interesting part of it is that one of the bird is all rusted out and the other is still very white. The bird bath was sitting outside in backyard for quite some time. It's pretty interesting that over the years one bird stayed so white and the other became so old looking. I feel like it was a great sign to show the most important theme of the album, change. You can take it however you want to take it really. But for me it shows that at times we feel so new and at other times we feel so rusted out. It really shows that over time we can get so beaten down. But it's nice to know that when we feel that way the less worn out version of us is still there too. It's easy for us to forget that in life.

I hope when you look at the album art you see a little more meaning to it now. Thanks for reading'.

Up and Coming Pop Punk Bands | We Were Lions

Today for our up and coming UK pop punk bands we'd like to introduce to you We Were Lions. The band, who hail from Essex, have recently released a new EP entitled Horizons which you can listen to below. Taking influence from A Day to Remember, 36 Crazyfists and Brand New, Horizons combines big choruses and powerful hooks. We Were Lions answered some questions for us about how they formed, how they came up with their band name and told us all we need to know about the new EP...

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Lloyd (Vocals): Essex, land of fake tans and low cut men’s shirts.
James (Guitar): We own a fair number of those t-shirts though.  We have the market cornered really.  That’s our schtick – He-vage! Every band needs a USP and that’s ours!

HOW DID WE WERE LIONS FORM?
Dan (Drums): About 4 years ago Lloyd started the band with Dean (our old guitarist), and they found myself and Marc on a site called “joinmyband”. After a year Phil came on-board to replace the original bass player.  All was going well for 2 years and we released our first EP ‘Rebirth’. Unfortunately Dean and Marc (Guitars), had to leave and we picked James and Rob after a number of auditions. Since then we've gone from strength to strength.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BAND NAME?
Dan: We all came up with a name each and voted. Unfortunately the voting process lasted quite a few weeks due to some small differences in opinions! But then we all decided We Were Lions was best and that was that.
Rob: I believe Lloyd has an interesting story for this.
Lloyd: Nicked it from a Charlie Simpson EP.
James: Short and sweet story…

YOUR MAIN GOAL AS A BAND IS?
James: Our long-term plan is to be as successful as we can be, but short term we are trying to build a local and nation fan-base so we can plan a UK tour for our next release.  We already have some awesome fans on twitter and enjoy interacting with the people who listen to our music.
Dan: Our main aim is to build up a big fan-base. We all love jamming in the studio but there's nothing better than playing live gigs and getting a great response from the audience.
Rob (Guitar): I want to be creative with music, perform it to millions, tour the planet, global domination and own more guitars than my mansion can hold.

YOUR TOP 3 INFLUENCES ARE?
James: A Day To Remember, Architects and Tom Waits.
Lloyd: A Day To Remember, Four Year Strong….aaand Taylor Swift
James: Lloyd and Taylor sitting in a tree…
Dan: Tool, Arch Enemy and 36 Crazy Fists
Rob: As an individual guitarist I have too many influences to narrow down to just three. Names like Mark Tremonti, Anthony Armstrong and Syn Gates come to mind, although since joining this band I have discovered the Pop Punk genre, so bands such as A Day To Remember, Sum 41, Amity Affliction among others have influenced me when writing for WWL.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW EP HORIZONS...
James: I was really excited about this EP.  I have never been in a band before that’s got to that stage.  I trained as a sound engineer so I am familiar with being in a studio but it was exciting to track the parts we had all written and be there for the process.  We recorded at ARU as Phil was studying there at the time so the whole EP was recorded and produced by Phil and myself.  I am very proud of it!
Lloyd: Four vastly different tracks to show off each element of WWL. If you haven’t listened to us before, its a great intro into what we do.
Rob: I really have nothing to compare this with as I wasn't a part of the 'Rebirth' EP. ‘Horizons’ is, in my opinion, merely a warm up for our release. The tracks are great, but the songs we have written for the next release have surpassed every song from Horizons in terms of quality and song-writing. With ‘Horizons’ I think you can tell that we were a 'new' line up, but with the new material we have, it sounds so much bolder and I think we've definitely found our 'sound'.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TRACK FROM HORIZONS AND WHY?
Dan: All 4 songs have elements that I love to hear, as well as play, so that's a tricky one! I do like a good guitar solo.  I'm Not Angry has an epic solo so if I have to pick it's that one, but the others aren't far behind!
Lloyd: “Health” is incredibly personal to me, and is the last track written. Going forward you’ll hear a lot more of that honesty in the lyrics.
James: “Guadalajara” is mine.  It has everything I love in a song; riffs, lots of changes and energy.

TOP FIVE FAVOURITE POP PUNK ALBUMS?
James: Common Courtesy by ADTR and I really like Dogs Eating Dogs by Blink 182
Lloyd: The Story So Far - What You Don’t See and Four Year Strong - Enemy Of The World
Dan: I love a lot of pop punk songs and it’s a fun genre to play, but I'm more of a rock/metal fan.
Rob:  Rebel Revive by Jamie's Elsewhere

Man Overboard Release New Song 'For Vince'

Man Overboard have released a new song entitled 'For Vince'. The song is from their upcoming EP 'Passing Ends' which is being released via Lost Tape Collective. The EP will include five songs and will be available from October 8th. Anyone who pre-orders will get a free download of For Vince and an invitation to an online show.

The EP will be released ahead of Man Overboard's European Heart Attack tour which has recently been postponed until April 2015 due to Nik tearing his ACL. The band released this statement regarding the postponement:

"It is with a heavy heart that we are forced to postpone our November European tour until April and May 2015 due a medical emergency. Nik tore his ACL and had to get surgery yesterday. His doctor made it clear to us that putting off the surgery could put Nik and his ACL in worse condition which will lead to an even longer recovery time. The good news is his surgery went well and he is now recovering at home. We are extremely sorry to disappoint anyone but taking care of this now will pave the way for an amazing and busy 2015. We love you and thank you for your everlasting support in our lives. See you April, complete details are on the way"

Up and Coming Pop Punk Bands | The Way Away

Today for our up and coming US pop punk bands we bring you The Way Away, who's new EP, Carry On, is out today! If you're a fan of New Found Glory, State Champs or Yellowcard then Carry On is definitely something you should pick up. The Way Away answered some questions for us so we could get to know them a bit better...

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Minneapolis, Minnesota

HOW DID THE WAY AWAY FORM?

We’ve gone through a bunch of member changes, so instead of getting messy, we’ll simplify it as much as possible. The band currently consists of Matt, Troy, Jeff, and Peter. Troy and Matt met through a craigslist ad, Jeff came into the band because he and Troy were friends from high school, and Peter came into the band because he and Matt were friends in college. We actually haven’t announced that Peter is our new drummer yet, so that’s a little bit of exclusive info.

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH YOUR BAND NAME?
Our band name comes from the Yellowcard song "Way Away". The meaning of that song embodied what we were doing at the time, and music is our way (to get) away from the difficulties of life.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW EP...
Our new EP is called Carry On and consists of seven songs. The songs are about failed relationships (family, friends, break-ups), happy relationships, pulling through tough times, and losing people who are close to you. Every song has a real story to it. We’re four guys who go through the same things everyone else does; we just write songs about them. The overall theme is loss, and though loss can be difficult to deal with, we find ways to carry on.

DESCRIBE YOUR NEW EP IN FOUR WORDS...
Catchy honest pop punk

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG FROM THE EP?
Our favorite song is probably Retrospect. I think it captures the sound we are going for well. Plus, it's really catchy.

IF YOU COULD PLAY A SHOW WITH ANY BAND IT WOULD BE?

This is a hard question to answer, because all of us come from different musical backgrounds, and we all have different bands that we love, and different bands that have influenced us. We’re going to go with Bayside, because we all agree that band is awesome.

TOP FIVE FAVOURITE POP PUNK ALBUMS?
Sticks and Stones – New Found Glory
Self Titled - Bayside
Paper Walls – Yellowcard
The Greatest Generation – The Wonder Years
From Here to Infirmary – Alkaline Trio

THE BAND THAT INSPIRES YOU THE MOST IS?

There really isn’t one specific band that inspires us most, but the bands we’ve seen come up and do things the right way are the ones that stick out. We’ve played with bands that have a real passion for this kind of music; they work hard, and are great people. Seeing that is encouraging, especially in this day and age when some bands seem to be doing everything they can to avoid doing paying their dues. To loosely quote H20, we’re down with the “passion before fashion” mentality.

ONE REASON EVERYONE SHOULD GO LISTEN TO YOUR NEW EP RIGHT NOW IS..
In our opinion, this EP sounds different than a lot of pop punk music coming out right now. Not to say there’s anything wrong with the current state of pop punk. We like a lot of those bands, and we definitely incorporate some of that into our music, but we also have a lot of the more melody-driven pop punk sound of the early-to-mid 2000’s, as well as some influences from outside the genre. We wouldn’t say we’re reinventing the wheel here, but we do think we are putting our own unique spin on the pop punk sound.
